Dr. Greenspan was certified and re-certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He has been certified and re-certified in 2023 as a Diplomate of the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. He has been listed in 2023 edition of the Best in Illinois Magazine, MD edition, the Chicago Magazine 2001 edition of "Top Doctors in Chicago," multiple years as one of Castle Connolly's "Top Doctors in Chicago" and in the 2009 edition of the Consumer Research Council of America's "Guide to America's Top Psychiatrists." He is a recipient of the National Leadership Award and was Honorary Co–Chairman of the Physician's Advisory Board in 2001 and 2002 in recognition of his assistance and guidance in the area of health care reform.
Dr. Greenspan completed his training in Psychiatry at Northwestern University where he was Chief Resident. Previous to this he obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the Finch University of Health Sciences/the Chicago Medical School. Dr. Greenspan served for ten years as Medical Director of Inpatient Psychiatric Services at North Shore University HealthSystem at Highland Park Hospital and, later, five years as the Medical Director of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry at Northwestern Memorial at Lake Forest Hospital. During his medical directorships he established a leadership role in the area of performance improvement. Additionally, Dr. Greenspan served as Psychiatric consultant to the North Shore Senior Center in Northfield.
Dr. Greenspan has published articles on neuropsychiatric brain function and physician training and given over forty presentations to the community at large, social service and medical groups. He has appeared on local television, on CLTV and Chicago radio. He is an advocate for health care reform.
Dr. Greenspan is married, has a son, two stepsons and a yellow lab (their third).
